Surgical Smoke Evacuation Update

Posted 12 months ago

Hi Everyone,

Our Texas House Bill 4365 now has a committee substitute approved by the entire Public Health Committee and posted on the Texas Legislature Online website. The Committee Substitute has been sent to the Calendars Committee to schedule a vote on the full House Floor. We expect that to take place some time this week. As soon as we know this is scheduled for the full House vote, AORN will be sending out a “Voter Voice” message to all Texas AORN members. We will need as many members to respond as possible with support to pass the committee substitute C.S HB4365. A suggested message will be there for you to accept or revise if you wish. Please encourage your colleagues to reply through “Voter Voice” prior to the full House vote.

When this is voted out of the House it will go directly to the Texas Senate and referred to the Health & Human Services committee for a hearing. More that likely the hearing will be on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. If any of you are available to testify, please let me know as soon as possible. I will confirm when we have a definite date. We again will need as many public comments to be registered on the committee hearing website before and during the hearing like we did for the Public Health hearing. Incidentally we had 97 responses for the Public Health Hearing all of which were posted if you would like to review. Once this hearing is complete and voted favorably out of committee, it will go to the Senate Calendars committee at which time we will activate the “Voter Voice” process to encourage members of the full Senate to vote for SB707. Once completed it will hopefully go to the Governor!

We are getting close!! Feel free to share with everyone and encourage participation.

Warmest regards,
